Welcome!

For over 260 years, the First Congregational Church of Chester has been a place where people have come to worship, pray and fellowship with others who share their common beliefs that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior and rely on Scripture to be their guide in their everyday walk.

Whether you are visiting with us because you are looking for a church family or only browsing through our statement of faith and our programs, we would like to welcome you to the First Congregational Church of Chester. We are a fellowship with over 260 years of faith tradition and history, still faithfully proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We have the honor and distinction of being the oldest Congregation Church, West of the Hudson River. In 1740, the church’s records relate, Rev. Samuel Sweezy, with several members of the congregation, left the Chester congregation, having served them for 20 years, and founded the first Protestant Church in what is now Mississippi. Thus, the Church claims the title of “Mother of Protestantism and congregationalism in the great Southwest.

We are a family of God and we like that name for our church. We are interested in people more than program here. We believe that’s what the church of Jesus Christ is all about…worshipping with and caring for each other in the name of Jesus Christ. We are all about allowing the world to know that we are His followers by our love for one another, and by our commitment to Biblical principles and practices.
