For over 275 years, the First Congregational Church of Chester has been a place where people have come to worship, pray and fellowship with others who share their common beliefs that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior and rely on Scripture to be their guide in their everyday walk.
Whether you are visiting with us because you are looking for a church family or only browsing through our statement of faith and our programs, we would like to welcome you to the First Congregational Church of Chester. We are a fellowship with over 275 years of faith tradition and history, still faithfully proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We are a family of God and we like that name for our church. We are interested in people more than program here. We believe that’s what the church of Jesus Christ is all about…worshipping with and caring for each other in the name of Jesus Christ. We are all about allowing the world to know that we are His followers by our love for one another, and by our commitment to Biblical principles and practices.
Come and learn about the history of the First Congregational Church! The program starts with some of the first settlers in our area and their journey in finding religious freedom. Learn about the three different church buildings that have occupied our property in the last 275 years and a bit about our Pastors. The event will be on Thursday, Oct. 23rd at 7pm in the sanctuary with a reception in the Chapel to follow. Presented by Joan Case, a local historian

is celebrating our 275th Anniversary in 2015. Our church historian, Joan S. Case decided to compile the church’s history to commemorate this milestone. Much of the material in this book is derived from the history, written in 1832 by Pastor Abner Morse, and is still in the church’s possession. Pastor Morse traced the story of the Chester Congregationalists back to their origin in England, their first settlement in Southold, Long Island, and their subsequent removal to New Jersey. The later year’s history has been gleaned from church minutes and the church historians who have kept the records through the years.
