For over 275 years, the First Congregational Church of Chester has been a place where people have come to worship, pray and fellowship with others who share their common beliefs that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior and rely on Scripture to be their guide in their everyday walk.
Whether you are visiting with us because you are looking for a church family or only browsing through our statement of faith and our programs, we would like to welcome you to the First Congregational Church of Chester. We are a fellowship with over 275 years of faith tradition and history, still faithfully proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We are a family of God and we like that name for our church. We are interested in people more than program here. We believe that’s what the church of Jesus Christ is all about…worshipping with and caring for each other in the name of Jesus Christ. We are all about allowing the world to know that we are His followers by our love for one another, and by our commitment to Biblical principles and practices.
Wednesday November 26th “Enter into his gates with Thanksgiving and into his courts with praise” Come join us for an evening of thanks and praise at our Thanksgiving Eve Service at 7:30pm. Refreshments will be served in Zezzo Hall following the service.
Saturday December 6th This year in honor of our 275th Anniversary we’ll be hosting a Nativity Display along with our 6th Annual Christmas Hymn Sing. Please join us Saturday, December 6th, 2014. Starting at 7:00 pm, we'll start with appetizers and view array of Nativity’s, each different and special in their own way. Read the stories and history shared by their owners. Then we’ll gather in the Sanctuary, for a good old fashion sing-a-long of traditional Christmas songs, played on our beautiful 1873 Odell Organ.

is celebrating our 275th Anniversary in 2015. Our church historian, Joan S. Case decided to compile the church’s history to commemorate this milestone. Much of the material in this book is derived from the history, written in 1832 by Pastor Abner Morse, and is still in the church’s possession. Pastor Morse traced the story of the Chester Congregationalists back to their origin in England, their first settlement in Southold, Long Island, and their subsequent removal to New Jersey. The later year’s history has been gleaned from church minutes and the church historians who have kept the records through the years.
